Who is PhD Marcin Sołtysiak?
Dr. Marcin Sołtysiak is an investor and innovator in the energy transition and the founder, owner, and CEO of the ELQ Group, which includes ELQ S.A. – a Polish company developing modern energy infrastructure, energy storage systems, renewable energy solutions, and critical infrastructure projects. Since the acquisition and restructuring of ELQ in 2012, he has consistently expanded the Group’s focus on energy, new technologies, and large-scale infrastructure projects.
With over 25 years of experience in investments, capital structuring, and project management, Dr. Marcin Sołtysiak is developing a portfolio of large-scale energy and infrastructure projects in Poland and Ukraine. The Ukrainian portfolio includes 28 projects related to photovoltaics, wind energy, biogas, biofuels, and BESS energy storage, among others. The total CAPEX of these projects is approximately €3 billion – excluding SMR projects.
A key element of the investment model is collaboration with leading global financial institutions that participate or are involved in preparing financing for projects in Ukraine. The financing structure involves the use of institutional capital, own funds, and investment security mechanisms, including war risk insurance. This ensures that projects are prepared in a model that enables their implementation even in the current, challenging geopolitical environment.
One of the most important new areas of activity is nuclear energy and the ELQ NUCLEAR ONE program. Dr. Sołtysiak is developing the concept of modular SMR reactors with a capacity of approximately 50 MW, which can operate independently or be combined into larger power units, ensuring stable electricity and heat production.
The strategy assumes the development of approximately 18 SMR projects in Ukraine, with some locations being integrated with modern data centers. ELQ is already working on the first projects and their technical, location, financial, and regulatory preparation.
The Chernobyl Exclusion Zone holds a special place in this strategy, where the ELQ Group has initiated strategic cooperation on the development of new energy and industrial investments. One of the key projects being analyzed for this area is the construction of an energy system based on ELQ NUCLEAR ONE, ultimately enabling the creation of a large-scale source of stable, emission-free energy.
The concept for Chernobyl, however, goes far beyond a single reactor. The goal is to create a modern energy and technology ecosystem in which nuclear energy can be combined with energy storage, renewable energy sources, industrial infrastructure, and future data centers. The project aims to leverage the potential of the Exclusion Zone and give it new economic significance – as a location for the development of one of the most advanced energy infrastructures in the region.
Concurrently, ELQ is preparing additional SMR sites in Ukraine, creating a long-term program to build a distributed, resilient energy infrastructure. Ultimately, these projects are intended to support the reconstruction of the Ukrainian power system, industrial energy security, and the development of new energy-intensive sectors of the economy.
Concurrently, Dr. Marcin Sołtysiak is developing a Prague-based investment platform, SICAV, with a target size of approximately €900 million, which will support the development of the Group’s energy, infrastructure, and technology projects.
His activities also include the development of BESS systems, data center infrastructure, artificial intelligence solutions, industrial and aviation decarbonization technologies, and projects related to energy security and independence.
Dr. Marcin Sołtysiak holds a PhD in economics. He combines his experience as an investor with a practical approach to the construction and financing of large-scale energy projects, currently focusing on one of his most ambitious areas of activity: the creation of a next-generation energy infrastructure in Ukraine based on ELQ NUCLEAR ONE.
